So many great quotes come out of my conversations with my guests! This is a weekly piece with some words that might just get you thinking.
The dark night of the soul is a literary fixture. The hero finds themselves in a strange new world, with few ties to the past. Nothing makes sense. Does one stay in darkness or move forward? How?
Eckhart Tolle writes:
The “dark night of the soul” is…a term used to describe what one could call a collapse of a perceived meaning in life…an eruption into your life of a deep sense of meaninglessness.”
As difficult as the experience is, it’s also an opportunity to re-craft your life.
Have you ever had a dark night of the soul? What changes did you make in your life?
“I would rather be real and be rejected than be fake and accepted.”-Darryll Stinson
Darryll found himself facing a dark night of the soul as his dreams of playing in the NFL collapsed. And it wasn’t just his dreams. His very sense of self was challenged and he met the challenge in a fearless manner.
Meeting such challenges takes courage and time. There would seem to be no apparent path forward. But in reality, the path lies within. The willingness to look inside for soulful guidance, rather than outside for societal approval, put Darryll on an authentic path.
Where does your best guidance come from? How do you nurture it?
“As I slowly recovered, I re-evaluated my life. The biggest thing I came away with was that I wanted to live more fully and follow my wildest dreams.” -Chris Dahl-Bredine
When Chris found himself tumbling down a trail at Taos Ski Area in an avalanche that send him careening over a cliff, he knew the outcome would not be good. He survived, and he used the event to totally re-evaluate his life. He found his calling in aerial photography.
What are your wildest dreams? Could they become your reality?
Food for thought. Have a wonderful, light filled week. May you follow your wildest dreams.
