So many great quotes come out of my conversations with my guests! This is a weekly piece with some words that might just get you thinking.
“I’ve been successful and a high performer all my life, but I didn’t give myself enough time to sit with my own thoughts, understand who I am at a core level.”-Constantin Morun
The search for personal identity may sound a bit self indulgent, but it’s really one of the most important things you can do. Because when you’re in tune with yourself, you’re in tune with your world. And from there comes an endless well of energy and directed purpose that can overcome the inevitable obstacles.
IMO, lack of that personal understanding is one of the things that leads people to seek something outside themselves, whether it’s a new car, a new house or a new spouse. How can you have an authentic relationship with someone else if you don’t have one with yourself? How can a new person in your life solve your own internal lack?
Ask yourself: Who are you at a core level? What did you love to do as a child, and what happened to that little you?
“Inside I just really felt depleted.”-Michael DiPietro
Midlife can hit people hard. For those that are wise, they know it’s a call to recalibrate their inner life. This podcast with Michael DiPietro and Marcy Donnelly is so full of introspection and wisdom. For anyone facing some much needed change, this is a must listen.
“Society never says just sit, just turn inward.”-Thom Walters
Is sitting in silence and reflection a revolutionary act in an electronically addicted world? Thom Walters, a meditator, meditation teacher and speaker with over 40 years of experience, advocates for the power of meditation.
Now before you conjure up images of a mountain in Tibet, know that the entree to mediation for you might be through sound or music, through nature, through movement or through a million different entry points.
What is the point of it all? To learn to quiet your mind, find peace, and let go of the “monkey mind”, that stream of endless, unconscious, scripted thoughts that dominate your day.
Imagine if your mind was still…what would you choose to fill it with?
