This week, some thoughts on transitions.
Spring and all the transitions that accompany the change of seasons is upon us. First come the birds. A symphony wafts through the air with the occasional off beat voice from somewhere unknown.
It’s too early this far north for the trees to even think about blooming, but buds sit poised atop bare branches, promising a spectacular transition to warmer weather.
Which makes me think of the transitions we all face in life. How to navigate them with some degree of grace?
This week, three stories about just that. Transitions and the hard earned, but humble pride that comes from navigating them with some degree of grace.
“Life is not happening to you. Life is to be experienced by you.” -Cindy Girman
Grief is an emotional minefield. You never know when something is going to set you off. But Cindy Girman was able to find deep meaning in her son’s death.
And that experience set her on a most unexpected course, one that changed the very way she viewed life.
Can you name a time when grief evolved into deeper meaning? What wisdom did you take away from the experience?
This is a story about the other side of a dark night of the soul. It’s a story about using dark times to find light and about transforming our deepest truths. It’s about life, spirituality and healing.
From a near death experience, to cancer, to surviving on an external heart pump while waiting years for a transplant, Cherie embodies the concept of grace. I can’t even begin to tell her story. (Click the quote above to access the podcast.) But I can stand in awe of her peace, kindness and giving soul.
Who do you know that just embodies the concept of grace? What is it about them that inspires you?
“It’s not a matter of courage. It is a matter of trust.” -Mary Neal, MD
What happens when a pragmatic and analytical scientist experiences something beyond her scientific paradigm and opts to embrace the change?
Grace.
Mary Neal’s near death experience has been widely told. The wisdom she received during the experience was excruciating: her son would die. How does one find peace with such knowledge?
Have you ever had to find peace with a difficult situation or a situation with no closure? Where did you find it, and how did that grace change your perception of the experience?
