So many great quotes come out of my conversations with my guests! This is a weekly piece with some words that might just get you thinking about your own life.
This past week I’ve been working on my next Strong Women essay (to be released shortly). From that, let me share a few thoughts about why you want to expand your comfort zone.
Christina Ramirez is a former investment banker who speaks five languages. She’s not shy about looking within for authenticity, But that courage is hard earned. She is a walking reminder that life can be an amazing adventure when you step outside your comfort zone.
What’s been your greatest adventure to date? What wonderful quality did you discover about yourself?
“When you choose to do things afraid, you build your courage.” -Martha McSally
Martha McSally is a remarkable woman. Her grit, perseverance, and sense of fair play has allowed her to rise to the rank of Colonel in the US Air Force and become the first woman to fly in combat.
“Do things afraid,” she advises women.
What’s the best thing you’ve ever “done afraid”?
“I wanted to try it.” -Angie Scarth-Johnson
Red Bull, the energy drink, has a terrific video series called Reel Rock. Season Ten, highlights Australian climbing prodigy Angie Scarth-Johnson’s (above) efforts to free climb a natural bridge over fast moving surf in Mallorca. A misplaced hand or a lost hold means falling into the moving ocean below.
This Red Bull production featuring Angie is a short film . The story is one of taking baby steps to face your fear, sometimes “failing”, but getting up and going again. It’s about perseverance and having an ever expanding comfort zone.
This is a terrific video series for adventure/extreme sports junkies (of which I am one-I think I just admire the courage and dedication it takes to reach this level of excellence.)
Take a few moments and browse these films. Ask yourself: what’s the coolest thing you’ve accomplished? (It doesn’t have to be in sports!)
