So many great quotes come out of my conversations with my guests! This is a weekly piece with some words that might just get you thinking about your own life.
This week’s quotes focus on mind over matter. What you mind, matters! Each of these guests offer profound insights on using your mind and your emotions for your best benefit.
“We are feeling creatures who think.” -Jill Bolte Taylor
Jill Bolte Taylor put TEDX on the map with her talk about her book “My Stroke of Insight” which details how this Harvard brain researcher observed her own brain throughout a severe stroke.
It took 8 years for Jill to fully recover and her second book is “Whole Brain Living”. This remarkable book teaches us how to integrate the different parts of our brain for our benefit.
Do you know that (slightly) neurotic part of your brain that can find any reason not to do anything? The part that is endlessly critical and fears change? That criticizes your every move? It’s actually drawing from our past experiences with the intent of keeping us safe. But it needs to be balanced with both rational and intuitive thinking.
Jill’s book teaches you how to do this. I highly recommend this book.
“I can’t hold it all together. I let it go.” -from Michael DiPietro and Marcey Donnelly
Midlife is a time when our mindset may shift to one of a glass half full. Regrets may appear. Chances not taken may be mourn. It’s a time to assess and redirect our path forward.
I often say that the first half of our lives is spent having all sort of expectations and judgements heaped upon us. If we’re lucky, the second half of our lives we start to peel away these unwanted layers to rediscover our true selves.
Michael and Marcey share so much wisdom from their own journeys through midlife. This is really a must listen for all of us, at any age.
“Society never says just sit, just turn inward.”-Thom Walters
Especially at this time of year. We jump to the dictates of ads, requests and sales. We decorate and we bake. And when it’s all over, we clean up and get ready for the next “event” in our lives. In short, we live from the outside in.
What if we learned to live from the inside out? Thom can show you the way.
