The world seems to be in a struggle for connection. Feelings of isolation are rampant. We’re isolated from nature, from our institutions and from each other. We may even feel isolated from our true selves.
How-and where- does one find connection?
This podcast brings together three very different women: Myself, Lise DeGuire, and Cherie Aimée. Together we explore our own experiences of isolation and connection in sometimes impossible circumstances.
Lise is a psychologist and author of the award winning Flashback Girl. When she was six years old, her mother accidentally started a fire. Her mother saved herself but left Lise behind. She was severely burned over 65% of her body.
Cherie Aimée, a 32-year-old branding consultant, was diagnosed with Hodgkins lymphoma. Ten months after finishing treatment, her heart had failed, she flatlined and had an NDE (Near Death Experience). That alone changed her life. But next came the wait for a heart transplant. Because transplants recipients are required to wait five years post cancer treatment to be eligible for a transplant, Cherie found herself living with an LVAD (left ventricular assist device), a battery operated pump that is used for patients in end-stage heart failure. It was restrictive and terrifying.
Two people. Two very different life experiences. And two very different takes on isolation and connection. Enjoy the conversation. May it give you some insight into your own approach to belonging.
