In 2009 I was diagnosed with supposedly incurable cancer. One outcome of this was a quest for control in a totally out of control situation as I was sucked into the endless whirlwind of tests, drugs and bills that represents our modern medical system.
What did I control? My body-no. Medical care-no. My mind-not at that point.
In a desperate quest for control, I read everything I could get my hands on. Two powerful sources stood out: (1) A study by Dean Ornish, MD and (2) a book by David Servan Schreiber, Md, PhD., Anticancer A New Way of Life
After numerous iterations of trying to figure out what was good health for me, I came to the decision that is was a balance of real, mostly organic food; mental health; exercise; and connection. Some of the iterations of my quest are quite humorous, but I’ll save those for another time.
My personal conclusions parallel the findings of both Servan-Schreiber and Ornish. I’ll leave you to read their materials for yourself. I highly recommend both. Their conclusions have nothing to do with cancer; they are totally about health and are applicable to each and every one of us.
I bring this up because there is an episode on Joe Rogan that I urge everyone to listen to. It’s long; take it in segments. And if this catches your attention, look up the two links above.
