Cole Baker-Bagwell found herself profoundly alone when she moved to a remote mountain town. Her isolation devolved into a profound sense of loneliness. She became depressed.
Mindfulness, as Cole describes, became her lifeline. For over 30 years, she had practiced this cognitive skill, which Jon Kabat-Zinn defines as being aware in the present moment without judgment. It was through mindfulness that Cole found the strength to face her depression head-on. She shares her unique approach to dealing with difficult emotions, treating them as members of her personal “council” and engaging with them in a dialogue that fostered understanding and healing.
Cole’s journey back to a happy and functioning life was accompanied by support and understanding of those around her. She made significant changes in her life, effectively rewriting her story.
