I have always enjoyed Instagram. Lately, I’ve let the account sit as I wrestled with the evolution from CancerRoadTrip to Bump In The Road.
The evolution makes sense, if you know the story. (Here is a short overview.) But I was stumped as to how to share this new project (Bump) with my old following, which was travel and photo oriented.
I was no longer traveling the world, sharing exotic shots or taking obscure roads to who knows where.
Instead, I was traveling within.
I was creating a podcast and a book that explored the incredible range of human experiences and the wisdom that arose from them. In doing this, I was rather tethered to my computer. There’s not much visual interest in that!
I tried integrating my podcast guests into my Instagram feed, but it didn’t feel genuine to me. So I let it all languish. How do I integrate my photography and my sense of adventure into my podcast? How do I marry the reflection of photography with a podcast about life’s bumps?
Finally it struck me. All I had to do was be me. My photos are part of my life’s road trip. Sometimes they’re meaningful; sometimes not. Sometimes they’re good; sometimes not. Either way they certainly tie into the “brand” of Bump In The Road because they’re all about the adventure of life, and the reflection and wisdom that sometimes comes from it.
So, I’m back on Instagram. I’m keeping my old handle @CancerRoadTrip. I hope you’ll follow.
Coming Soon! The Book. Bump In The Road, Stories of Courage, Perseverence and Resilience, an inspiring anthology of overcoming life's bumps. Because everyone needs a bit of inspiration.
