I was the kid that rode her bicycle to the library, signed out six books and returned them (all read) before the due date.
I just love to read. It takes me to new places, into imaginary worlds and broadens my perspective. My personal reading ranges from classics to woo, from history to beach reads. And everything in between.
I’d rather read a good book than watch a mediocre movie. (And the book is always better than the movie!)
With all my travel in recent years, I do most of my reading on Kindle, but I still prefer an old fashioned book I can touch and hold. I like the feel of the pages between my fingers. I love the weight of a book in my hand, purse or backpack. And most of all I love the fact that it’s simply by my side, always available, to hold and handle and to take me to some far away place.
I also read to retain my ability to be present and focus. With all the distractions of the modern day world, I found that my focus was waning. It was getting harder and harder to commit my full attention to a book, or anything that required extended presence and the ability to hold a thought and go deep into it. And I didn’t want that to happen.
As a result, I limit my morning on-line reading, and make it a point to turn off the on-line world for my inner world. I journal and I meditate. For me, this has offered a balance between the rabbit holes of the web (most of which I thoroughly enjoy!) and the rabbit holes of my mind.
I thought I’d start to share some of my favorite books and some of the reasons these particular books drew me in. I’ve had a reasonably interesting life. But I realize that most of my guests and readers really know very little about me. Perhaps Good Reads will change that. Because I am, to some extent, the sum of my readings. And so much more.
In this series, I hope you’ll find something that resonates with you, in the stories I tell or in the books I share.
First book post, coming soon!
Happy Reading!
